Blocking the evacuation route

Before checking anything else, make sure the drain itself isn’t blocked in some way. Sometimes this problem may occur due to constant vibration of your device or maybe wrong installation.

Tighten any connections that may be loose and see if that fixes your issue.

Rusty drain tray

How many years has passed since the life of your air conditioner? If your air conditioner is older than a significant period of time, your drain tray is probably damaged due to rust. A damaged drain tray can stop the flow of water to the drain line. Check if your drain pan needs replacing.

Defective condensate pump

This pump passes the moisture collected from liquid droplets through the discharge path. If you have your indoor air conditioner unit in the basement, chances are you also have a condensate pump. If the pump is faulty, it can cause interruptions in the draining of your system.

Frozen evaporator coil

If your evaporator coil freezes, it can cause water to leak instead of moving freely through the drain.

Dirty evaporator coil

Just as ice build-up on the coil can cause leaks, dirt build-up can also cause leaks. In either case of a frozen or dirty evaporator coil, regular system maintenance should prevent this from happening.
