Rudest Meta to Apple; Some of the Vision Pro’s features are coming to cheaper headsets

MetaQuest 3 owners will soon be able to watch 3D videos recorded for Apple’s Vision Pro. Meta VR headsets will also use gestures similar to Apple’s more expensive mixed reality headsets to control the user interface.

The new changes will be released as part of version 62 of the Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro operating systems from February 7 (18 February 1402) to the owners of these headsets.

3D video support on Quest Meta headsets allows users to watch 3D videos recorded with iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Apple’s 3D videos are recorded with metadata that Vision Pro can use to calculate the difference between the left and right images for each eye. Meta says Users can upload 3D videos in the Meta Quest mobile application with a maximum time of 20 minutes.

The price of Meta Quest 3 virtual reality headset is currently set at around $550, which is much cheaper than Apple’s virtual reality headset. In comparison, the basic Vision Pro model is sold with a price tag of $3,500.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, by publishing a post on Instagram, provided explanations about the feature of playing 3D videos in Quest. His post also included a short clip of a Meta headset playing 3D video of trees.

Version 62 of the operating system of Quest Meta headsets has other features in addition to playing 3D videos. For example, this update will support Vision Pro-like gestures for controlling the user interface (like pinching the index finger and thumb to click).

Meta will also offer the possibility of using different controllers in the Quest browser so that users can stream online games more easily.

The Quest Link update will bring support for 120Hz refresh rate in VR compatible games. Meta headsets will soon receive another feature that will allow them to pick up where they left off while running multiple apps.
