Taiwanese company GIGABYTE, as one of the brands active in the hardware market, pays special attention to gaming monitors and offers its products in various price ranges.

GIGABYTE M27Q gaming monitor is one of the intermediate models of Taiwanese and is sold at a price of about $289 in USA market. GIGABYTE calls the M27Q the world’s first KVM gaming monitor (the ability to use a keyboard and mouse set to control two computers). A quick look at the technical specifications of the M27Q reveals that GIGABYTE has launched one of the best products on the market, at least on paper, in this price range, which can persuade not only gamers but also professional users such as graphic designers to buy this product.

Checking Design and the Ports of GIGABYTE M27Q Monitor 170 Hz

GIGABYTE offers its gaming monitors in two series GIGABYTE and AORUS and M27Q is a member of the GYGABYTE family of monitors. The 27-inch M27Q flat-panel display is enclosed at the top and sides with very narrow bezels; But the lower margin, where the name GIGABYTE appears, is thicker. The M27Q’s narrow bezels make it an ideal choice for multi-monitor systems. The body of the M27Q is made entirely of plastic; But the good build quality gives it a relatively good strength, and it will probably show good resistance when you get bored while playing.

The display base on the various GIGABYTE family models has a thicker design than the AORUS family models. The height of the monitor can be adjusted by rail using a vertical mount attached to the base, and the height of the monitor can be changed up to 130 mm. There is also a hole for cable management on this vertical mount. Based on the experience we had working with the M27Q‌, the height of the monitor is easily adjusted, and placing the monitor at the highest height means that even tall people do not need to use a stand.

In addition to height adjustment, you can tilt the monitor in the range of -20 to -5 degrees; But you will not be able to swivel it, which means that the image cannot be viewed vertically. Fortunately, the M27Q also attaches to the wall with a 100x100mm VESA mount. The thickness of the display without a base is about 4 cm and therefore occupies a small depth when connected to the wall.

The back panel of the M27Q has a modern look and GIGABYTE has designed it with a combination of matte and glossy plastic. The power button and KVM button are located at the bottom right of the back panel, and the ports are arranged horizontally across the back panel. Using the KVM feature, which gives GIGABYTE a lot of maneuverability, you can use a keyboard and mouse set to control two systems. To use KVM, all you have to do is connect the keyboard and mouse dongle to the USB 3.0 ports on the monitor, and connect the second device to the monitor using the USB-C port. Then, by pressing the KVM key on the back of the monitor, select the device on which you want the mouse and keyboard to be active.

Dimensions of the M27Q with stand are 202.9 × 533.5 × 615.1 mm and the thickness of the display is measured with a stand of 14.8 cm, which makes the M27Q a good choice for use on narrow tables. The M27Q monitor weighs up to 5.5 kg with the stand.


The built-in ports on the back panel of the M27Q provide gamers with a relatively complete set. A 1.2 Diaplay Port, two HDMI 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a power port are provided for the M27Q, but there’s no HDMI 2.1 port. In addition to providing video output, the USB-C port can be used to charge smaller devices such as smartphones or wireless headphones by providing 10 watts of power.

The GIGABYTE M27Q gaming monitor uses a 27-inch IPS LCD display that offers QHD resolution or 1440 x 2560 with 8-bit color depth, 16: 9 aspect ratio and a density of 109 pixels per inch. M27Q matte panel lighting is done as Edge Type; This means that the luminous areas consisting of LEDs are located around or on the edges of the display and direct their light towards the middle of the panel. Using such an array makes Edge Type panels have lower image quality than Full-Array panels and does not perform well, especially in displaying black color levels.

The Q27M monitor provides five image profiles for displaying SDR content. If you are not satisfied with the settings of these default display profiles, you can create up to 3 profiles of your choice from the settings section or change the default image mode specifications.

To measure the brightness of the M27Q display, we measured the brightness of all image modes in SDR mode with different patterns. We also measured the brightness when displaying HDR content with a 10% pattern. Note that the screen brightness in each of the image modes is set to different values by default, we have also obtained the results in the table below based on the same brightness levels.


As you can see in the table, the sRGB profile provides the lowest brightness and the Movie profile provides the highest image brightness; So we used Movie mode to measure the contrast of the image. The contrast of the M27Q display in this case was 129, which is not a very good performance even for an LCD panel.

To measure the minimum brightness of the M27Q display, through the settings, we set the brightness option to zero and achieved a brightness of 45 nits in the 100% white pattern. With this amount of light, the M27Q monitor is not very suitable for working in dark environments and is annoying to the eye.

The Q27M monitor receives the HDR400 Display standard for displaying HDR content, which is the lowest level of HDR and displays colors in the smallest color space, sRGB, compared to other standards. The HDR400 Display lowers the overall brightness of the display by using Global Dimming to improve dynamic contrast. The maximum brightness of this standard on paper can reach 400 nits, which is 50% higher than the SDR standard at best.

When displaying HDR content, the performance of the M27Q gaming monitor does not differ in different profiles, and according to the results of our test, in all cases, the brightness of the image reaches 354 nits, which according to the HDR400 TV standard, the brightness is not good; But it makes sense.

Accurate display of colors is an important part of the visual experience, and monitors must produce high-precision colors in addition to adequately covering color spaces. To evaluate the color performance of the M27Q monitor, we measured the coverage and color accuracy of the various image modes in the sRGB color space, as well as the larger color spaces of the DCI-P3 and Rec 2020.
