Nationalism in Korea; iPhone is far behind Samsung phones

Apple has always been a fierce competitor to Samsung in the global mobile market. In 2023, after long efforts, Apple was able to have a larger annual supply volume than Samsung and take the first place. Statistics show that Apple’s market share in South Korea, Samsung’s homeland, has hit a new record.

According to Korea HeraldFor the first time, the iPhone market share in Korea has exceeded 25%. Apple’s market share increased by one percent every year from 2020 onwards, and in 2023 it faced three percent growth.

In the last few years, when Apple has increased its market share, Samsung’s market share has decreased. Last year, Samsung’s phone market share in Korea decreased by two percent and reached 73 percent.

The increase in iPhone sales in Korea is attributed to the popularity of people in their 20s to 40s. Eight out of 10 iPhone 15 pre-orders were purchased by people in their 20s and 30s.

The price of Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max, the most expensive iPhone, is 2.5 million won ($1,864) in Korea; That means 400,000 won ($300) more than the price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Despite the higher price, iPhone sales have increased in this country.

Apple opened its first Korean store in the Gangnam district last year, and has since gone on to open two more stores. Samsung opened a store in the same neighborhood as the Apple Store in Gangnam, which apparently failed to match the popularity of the Apple Store.
