On Wednesday (July 1), the two companies Upside Food and Good Meat based in California as the first companies Artificial meat production in the United States received a license from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to manufacture and sell artificial chicken meat products.

Joyn Biologics, a partner of Good Meat, also received a license to grow this type of meat; Of course, Good Meat artificial chicken product entered the market in Singapore since the end of 2020.

According to Live Science And according to the United States Department of Agriculture, the process of producing laboratory meat, which is also referred to as “in-slaughterhouse meat”, begins with the sampling of living animal tissue cells.

The ministry has emphasized that harvesting the cells usually does not harm the animal and does not kill it. Then the cells are screened and stored in the cell bank. In the next step, these cells are collected from the cell bank and transferred to large, enclosed containers (often steel tanks).

Steel tanks like Bioreactor They act in which cells can multiply rapidly and the producers provide them with nutrients for growth. In 4 to 6 weeks, the meat is ready to harvest. For this purpose, cells are collected from tanks and prepared using standard food processing and packaging procedures.

In 2019, the Food and Drug Administration and Inspection Service and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Administration created a legal framework to ensure that lab-grown meat is safe and labeled as authentic.

As part of this approval process, both Upside Food and GoodMeat artificial chicken products have been evaluated and certified as safe for human consumption. On Wednesday, the companies received the “Approval of Inspection” mark, which is the USDA’s final stamp of approval to bring the products to market.
