The leaked details aren’t just limited to the cost of making major games. Sony has said in court documents that one million PlayStation gamers do not play any other game than Call of Duty.
In 2021, more than 14 million users spent 30% or more of their time playing Call of Duty. More than 6 million users spend more than 70% of their time on Call of Duty. In the same year, almost one million users spent 100% of their time in the Call of Duty experience.
Sony made the documents in question available to the court with the aim of showing that if Call of Duty is exclusive to Xbox, PlayStation’s income will drop drastically. Sony has repeatedly told regulatory bodies that it is worried that Microsoft will make Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox or destroy the PlayStation version.
According to Sony’s document, the Call of Duty series in 2021 has brought in $800 million in revenue for PlayStation in the US market alone. It is also stated in a part of the document that the global income reaches 1.5 billion dollars; Of course, this part of the document is not completely legible. When you add accessories and subscription services and more into the equation, revenue jumps to $15.9 billion annually.
