A group of Chinese scientists have published a paper entitled “Overcoming Machine Design Limitations: Automatic CPU Design with Artificial Intelligence”, which details the process of designing a new CPU based on the RISC-V architecture in less than 5 hours. These researchers claim that the speed of artificial intelligence in processor design is up to a thousand times faster than the human team.
The goal of the Chinese research team was to answer the question, can machines design chips like humans? These scientists believe that the previous designs made with artificial intelligence are relatively small or limited in scope, and thus to test the boundaries of design with artificial intelligence, they tried to use this technology to automatically design a new processor based on the RISC-V architecture.
