46% performance loss as a result of overheating; The Dimensity 9300 chip appeared disappointing

This year’s Dimensity 9300 processor does not use the traditional combination of cores like Snapdragon 8 generation 3, and the biggest difference between these two processors is the lack of low-power cores in the current MediaTek flagship. While the Dimensity 9300 was able to outperform Apple’s A17 pro GPU in the iPhone, it provided an outstanding overall performance, at the cost of increased power consumption and, as a result, increased heat.

This CPU stress test was conducted on the Vivo X100 Pro flagship phone, which has a Vapor Chamber for better CPU cooling. In the aforementioned test, the vapor chamber of the Vivo X100 Pro could not cool the Dimension 9300; As a result, the frequency of the processor in one of the cores reached only 0.60 GHz due to overheating.

Most Android flagships such as Vivo X100 Pro use a steam chamber designed to control the temperature of Dimension 9300. Although the chip is built on TSMC’s 4nm process, which is inherently less power-efficient, the lack of low-power cores means that it will consume more power than the 3rd generation Snapdragon 8 and the A17 Pro.

One of the users By publishing a post on X It showed that running the CPU Throttling test leads to overheating of Dimension 9300 in just two minutes.

The CPU Throttling test tests an eight-core Dimension 9300 CPU with a load of up to 100 threads. Looking at the graph, the clock speed of one of the cores is reduced to 0.60 GHz and the rest of the cores are also reduced to 1.20 GHz and 1.50 GHz.

By default, the maximum clock speed of this chip is 3.25 GHz, which is related to the Cortex X4 core. Based on the obtained results, the overall performance of Dimension 9300 decreased by 46% during the stress test.

Although these tests show that MediaTek shouldn’t just rely on performance cores, the CPU Throttling test is designed to bring even the most thermally optimized processors to their knees. Snapdragon 8 generation 3 or A17 Pro may perform better; But there are other factors involved that determine how hot the phone’s processor can get.

For example, in a hot and humid environment, the ambient temperature is higher, which makes the Dimension 9300 heat up much faster. It is likely that in normal use, MediaTek’s flagship chip will perform well; But the Taiwanese company may want to reconsider its approach of reusing the same performance core mix for next year’s Dimension 9400.
