Qualcomm, one of the largest mobile chip manufacturers, announced at Mobile World Congress 2023 that Honor and Xiaomi’s new flagship phones will be equipped with the Snapdragon Satellite platform. Unlike iPhone 14’s satellite connection, this system allows sending normal messages. Apple’s satellite system is dedicated to sending emergency messages.
Over time, the Snapdragon Satellite platform will enter all Qualcomm 5G chips, from low-end to flagship models. Xiaomi 14 and Oppo Find X6 Pro will probably have satellite connectivity thanks to Snapdragon Satellite. Qualcomm has confirmed that the new generation of Motorola Edge and Note Phone 2 will also be equipped with Snapdragon Satellite.
The Snapdragon Satellite platform will likely offer a satellite communication system for a monthly subscription fee.
