The smartphone sales market has followed a downward trend during the last quarter, which, of course, is not so surprising considering the recession in the global economy. The Counterpoint and Canalis report shows that even if there are signs of improvement in the smartphone market in the future, the trend of decreasing sales of these products will continue. In these reports, it is mentioned that people still give priority to buying cheaper phones, and for this reason, we are witnessing the boom in the second-hand, repack and refurbish market.

Repack phones are devices that are actually second-hand, but their various parts and components have probably been replaced and re-packaged in boxes similar to the original and new ones. But refurbished phones are devices that have been returned to the manufacturer due to technical problems and defects, and the manufacturer has re-launched the phone at a lower price after fixing the problem.

According to the report of the analytical company Counterpoint, the smartphone market has been facing a drop in sales for the eighth consecutive quarter, and in fact, the sales of these products are about 8% less compared to the same period last year. The Canalis report shows that the drop in smartphone sales in the second quarter of 2023 was about 11%.

Samsung dominates this market due to the release of a large number of mid-range Galaxy A series phones. Counterpoint’s report shows that Apple has taken the second place in the market, but the share of this brand is higher than in the second quarters of previous years. Chinese companies Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo were also ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively. It should be mentioned that both Canalys and Counterpoint analytical companies have announced the same market share for different brands of smartphone manufacturers.
