Scientists have finally revealed the true colors of Uranus and Neptune

Neptune and Uranus, the solar system’s ice giants, have finally revealed their true colors thanks to reprocessing of Voyager 2 images, data from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Very Large Telescope (VLT).

Previously, Neptune was thought to be dark azure and Uranus was light blue green. However, the new images show that these ice giants are close to each other in terms of color and both appear blue-green.

Images of Uranus, the seventh planet from the Sun, and Neptune, the eighth planet of the Solar System, were collected by Voyager 2 in 1986 and 1989, respectively. However, a group of researchers realized the real colors by reprocessing the images. In fact, it turns out, the resolution of actual images of Neptune had been enhanced to show the details of the planet’s atmosphere. According to the professor Kathryn HymansEdinburgh University Astronomer:

In fact, the researchers did what I believe people do on Instagram these days, manipulating the colors. They increased the blue color so they could see Neptune’s atmosphere, which is why Neptune looks so blue; But in reality, Neptune is quite similar to Uranus.
