US government dismantles major ransomware group: ‘We hacked the hackers’

In a joint operation with the German government, the US Department of Justice blocked a website hosted on darknet servers belonging to the Hive hacking group (active in the development of ransomware). The US says Hive is responsible for more than 1,500 cyber attacks against various companies, 70 of which operate in Germany.
Merrick GarlandThe Attorney General of the United States, in a statement, says that the Department of Justice last night dismantled an international ransomware network that was responsible for receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in ransom from victims. The US cooperated with law enforcement agencies in Germany and the Netherlands to block the Hive Group website.
According to the US Department of Justice, the blocking of Hive’s website has thwarted the hacker group’s $130 million ransom.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) managed to thwart a ransomware attack on a hospital in Louisiana and a school in Texas. In these two cases, the hackers demanded millions of dollars in ransom.
US officials have not yet released the identities of the Hive members and say the investigation is still ongoing.
