The Ministry of Communications is providing access to the open Internet for university professors
The unfiltered internet plan for university professors was proposed a few months ago, and according to the statement of the member of parliament’s supervisor in the working group to determine examples of computer criminal content, it had also passed the test stage. This plan was supposed to remove filtering, but only for certain people.
Now, with the rise of internet restrictions and the intensification of filtering, this plan is being followed more seriously than before. Five months of disruptions, blockages, and restrictions have made many professions, businesses, and even government agencies, apart from professors, demand unrestricted access to the Internet, and each of them has expressed their request to the Minister of Communications in separate letters.
In early February, it was announced that unfiltered internet would be launched for university professors; Of course, they named this Internet “Open Internet” and announced the purpose of its presentation as “the use of international platforms and websites with scientific, educational, research and technological content.”
Although according to the existing laws in many countries in the world, some sections of the society, including university professors, have a wider level of access to the Internet and in special spaces such as the university, they use the Internet with better speed and quality, but the important point in providing this level of Access means that the Internet in these countries is not out of reach of the general public or does not have extensive restrictions.
The same point makes the issue of class internet and all the criticisms related to it come up when talking about the Internet without restrictions for certain businesses or the provision of services that allow easier access for some people; Because according to jurists, class internet is not legitimate in domestic and international laws, and many activists in the field of technology also oppose it.
Despite this, the Minister of Communications has repeatedly emphasized that there is no class internet in the country. Last week, in response to a Zomit reporter about the class-based internet, he also rejected the issue of class-based internet and announced that “we have prepared a series of facilities for certain classes, we are providing tools so that they can access the sites that are banned without the need of a filter breaker to be This is the general path we are taking” and added that providing such tools to some classes does not mean providing class internet.
In response to Mehr news agency, Zarepour has now announced that the unfiltered internet for professors is like the reporter’s internet that the Ministry of Communications has previously given to some journalists and explained what it is: “This internet is for access “Professors are provided to sites that have been banned and some sites that have multiple uses and may have been filtered.”
Of course, the Minister of Communications has announced that this plan has not yet been implemented and is not operational, and the Ministry of Communications is currently providing this possibility. Mohammad Ali Zulfi Gol, Minister of Science, also said about the implementation time of this plan: “It depends on when the universities present the list of their faculty members.”
In this way, it seems that after journalists, gamers and programmers, university professors are the latest class that will be subject to facilities to bypass sanctions from outside and filtering from inside. We have to wait until the response of the Ministry of Communications to other persons, businesses and institutions, including doctors, the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, the Ministry of Peace, MPs, the Football Federation, businesses in the field of technology, etc., who requested unrestricted access to the Internet, is determined to be
