Chicago glass ship; This is the new Google office

While the iconic features of the Thompson Center, such as its 17-story atrium, will be preserved, the new transparent exterior will help make the sprawling atrium visible. An atrium is an open space between buildings that usually has several floors and a glass roof.

Also, thanks to street level improvements, the Thompson Center is supposed to be open to the general public as a public gathering space; The covered walkways and surrounding plaza will be redesigned to include more options for dining, shopping and events. In addition, train stations close to the building will also be upgraded to improve passenger traffic.

While Google did not comment on cost details and the final number of employees who will eventually work at the center in question, the tech giant emphasized its growing presence in Chicago and its long-term investment there.

For a building that until recently had an uncertain future, a massive renovation led by one of the world’s largest companies signals brighter days for the Thompson Center and the city of Chicago.
