Forget Wi-Fi; “Li-Fi” is coming with 100 times faster speed!

On the other hand, pureLiFi has produced a new 14.5 mm module called Light Antenna ONE, which is inserted into phones, laptops and other electronic devices. The dimensions of the module in question are similar to the 5G mmWave network antenna module.

Wi-Fi has become very widespread, because it has enough range and offers good speed. A Wi-Fi hotspot alone can bring high-speed Internet to your home or office because radio waves can pass through obstacles. Higher frequency signals such as lasers can transmit much larger amounts of data, but only if there are no obstacles in the way.

The Li-Fi Alliance claims that this technology can be 100 times faster than Wi-Fi, but this is still a theory and there is no hardware to test the Li-Fi Alliance’s claim.

The Li-Fi standard can transfer 224 GB of data in one second, which is equivalent to approximately 1,700 Gbps. Standard Wi-Fi 6 speed reaches 9.6 Gbps and standard Wi-Fi 7 reaches 40 Gbps. NASA’s space lasers transmit data at a speed of 200 gigabits per second.

Li-Fi uses infrared light, which is invisible to the human eye; But it may interfere with the performance of night-vision security cameras or robotic vacuum cleaners that use lasers to move.

We will probably see the operational version of Li-Fi technology for the first time in early 2024 during trade shows such as CES and MWC.
