The best astronomical images of 2021

The Royal Observatory is part of the Royal Greenwich Museum and is dedicated to enriching people’s understanding of space exploration. The annual Royal Observatory Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition and its subsequent exhibition at the Greenwich National Maritime Museum invite astronomical photographers to submit their best works and compete for cash prizes.

This year’s competition, co-sponsored by BBC Sky at Night magazine, recently announced its final list of images. This year, the competition received more than 4,500 works from amateur and professional photographers from 75 countries around the world.

The competition has nine categories: “Celestial Landscape”, “Aurora Borealis”, “People and Space”, “Our Sun”, “Our Moon”, “Planets and Comets and Asteroids”, “Stars and Nebulae”, “Galaxies” and “Young Astronomy Photographer of the Year”. In addition, there are two special prizes for it.

The overall winner will receive پ 10,000 and will be awarded the title of “Astronomical Photographer of the Year 13”. Winners of other categories will also receive ۰۰ 1,500 each. In continuation, you can see some of the selected works of this competition.
