When MediaTek unveiled the powerful Dimensity 9000 chip, everyone was waiting for this MediaTek chip to compete with Qualcomm 8 Series chips. MediaTek has used the latest Arm Cortex architecture in its flagship one-chip system, which offers extraordinary efficiency.
MediaTek hopes to enter the North American market with a build of this powerful processor, a market it has never been able to enter seriously. The semiconductor manufacturer’s products are mostly sold in China, Europe and India.
Today, MediaTek officially announced that five companies, Honor, Oppo, Redmi, Vivo and Xiaomi, will use the 9000 Density chip in their future flagships.
The next flagship of the Find X series will be the first product to be equipped with the Dimensity 9000 chip, according to the official announcement of Henry Devon, Vice President of Oppo. The phone is expected to be the next flagship of Oppo Find X4, which was previously announced at the Qualcomm Summit, and will be equipped with the first generation Snapdragon 8 chip. Thus, Oppo will probably produce two versions of the Find X4 with two processors from Qualcomm and MediaTek, and will offer a version of Qualcomm in the North American market and a version equipped with a 9,000 diversity in the global market.
We still do not know in which of the other companies mentioned by MediaTek will use 9000 Density. We know that Xiaomi will use Snapdragon 8 in Xiaomi 12. But the phone may also be available in some markets, including the large Chinese market, with the Dimensity 9000 chip.
MediaTek has supported 144Hz displays in the 9000-on-one-chip system, making it a great choice for gaming handsets.
The five brands that MediaTek has named as its business partners to use the new Dimension chip are in fact the same old partners of the company that offer their products in the same old markets of MediaTek, the same markets in which MediaTek has been successful. MediaTek has not yet succeeded in adding new companies such as Sony, OnePlus or Motorola to its list of business partners. As such, MediaTek is not expected to enter the North American market with a 9000 dimensionality. However, some of the flagships available in non-North American markets are expected to be equipped with this processor.
If the Dimensity 9000 really can compete with the Snapgragon 8 Gen 1 in terms of performance, more brands will probably be encouraged to use MediaTek chips. MediaTek will then be able to enter the North American market in 2023. Of course, MediaTek needs to support 5W mmWave in its chips to enter the US market.
MediaTek sold 50 million chips in 2020, and then tripled its chip sales to 20 million in 2021. If the company can enter new markets and encourage more business partners to buy and use its chips, they can maintain an upward trend in sales.
