Spartacus; Sony responds to Microsoft Xbox Game Pass

Sony is planning to create a shared service similar to the Xbox Game Pass. The company currently offers two subscription services: PlayStation Plus, which is required for most online multiplayer games, and PlayStation Now, which offers games for download or streaming.

According to published reports, it seems that the two services will be merged in Sony’s latest service. Jason Schreier, A tech reporter, tweeted that Sony would likely retain the PlayStation Plus brand; But PlayStation Now will be removed.

According to Bloomberg, the new service, codenamed Spartacus, will have three levels: one offers the current PlayStation Plus rating, the other includes the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game catalogs, and the third includes demos. It will have the ability to stream games and a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games.

According to sources, this service will probably be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. However, Bloomberg explained that some details have not yet been released, including various levels of Sony’s future service, and may change. It goes without saying that the company will launch the service in the spring.

According to published reports, Sony is expanding its resources for cloud games. Maybe the company plans to compete with things like Nvidia’s RTX 3080 in GeForce Now and Microsoft’s Xbox Series upgrade for xCloud.

However, it is not yet clear whether Spartacus will be based on Microsoft Azure after the signing of a contract between Microsoft and Sony in 2019. Will run or not. If this happens, it means that Sony’s service is running on the same platform as its rival.

It looks like Spartacus could put Sony in a similar position to Microsoft. These services allow people to play multiplayer online, access a large library of titles from Microsoft and other companies, and stream games from the cloud.

Also, Sony seems to have imitated Microsoft’s approach to providing several different levels of service. Game Pass Ultimate, for example, is only available to people who pay $ 15 a month. However, one of the main advantages of Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate is the first day access to Microsoft first person titles; But Spartacus may not offer such a privilege to its users.
