The DirectStorage 1.1 interface allows the system’s central processor to reduce the number of critical cycles required for heavy processing and to process part of the video game elements through graphics without the intervention of the operating system. DirectStorage 1.1 limits the strain on the processor when requesting data from an NVMe SSD drive. Thanks to Microsoft’s DirectStorage 1.1, the processing time of game elements is reduced.
PC Games Hardware tested three high-end graphics cards AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT, Intel Arc A770 and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 in DirectStorage 1.1 to measure the speed of these GPUs in decompressing data. All three graphics cards were present in a system with a 12th generation Intel Core i9-12900K processor.
