Asus ZenBook 17 Fold Folding Laptop Introduced

A few years ago, CES halls were full of prototype clamshell smartphones. Folding phones are now ubiquitous. At CES 2022, the focus is on foldable laptops.

According to Digital Trends, the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold is not technically the first folding device of its kind, but it is the first device that has really shown itself in the market of folding laptops. According to an expert from the digital website Trends, who had the chance to work with the Zenbook 17 Fold, this product is excellent in theory.

The second folding laptop

CES 2022 was the year of folding laptops, but with the start of March, many companies canceled their attendance. Lenovo went ahead with the X1 Fold ThinkPad, but its use did not look very interesting and it was not very satisfied with the performance of the device.

The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold is the second foldable laptop on the market, and it seems to have learned from the mistakes of folding devices two years ago. The first is that this product has large dimensions and will be offered with a 17-inch screen, and the second is that its overall dimensions are folded, about the size of a 13-inch laptop. In addition, this product is expected to perform better in terms of processing power. According to Asus, this device is equipped with one of the latest Intel processors. Although the company did not name the chip used in the foldable laptop, it is said that this product uses a twelfth generation Intel processor.

Of course, there are also negative points about the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold. A plastic layer appears to be covered on the screen and you will need both hands to close it. In addition, in the middle of the screen, the fold wave is clearly visible. Asus has announced that it will fix the problem of folding in the middle of the screen until this product is released to the market. Another problem with this device is its relatively high weight and large dimensions. This laptop is not very big in terms of length and width, but it is very thick. In fact, it can be said that the thickness of this product is about the thickness of two 13-inch notebooks stacked on top of each other and weighs about the same as the two notebooks.

Most of the weight of the 17-fold Zenbook is related to its main body, and its keyboard does not weigh much. Of course, to use the keyboard of this laptop, you have to charge it separately, and so if you want to charge the mentioned foldable laptop, you will need two cables.

Beyond folding

Folding seems like an interesting and useful feature, but the Zenbook 17 Fold is still a laptop that needs more than just a foldable display. The screen of this device uses a resolution of 1920 x 2560 pixels and a contrast ratio of 100,000: 1. In addition, the display has a response rate of 0.2 milliseconds and supports a 90Hz refresh rate and VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black certification.

Zenbook 17 Fold Display Vibrant colors, especially when used in a normal laptop mode. When the device’s keyboard is off, the display of this product is not smooth enough to properly understand its quality. This display offers deep colors and contrast.

The detachable Zenbook 17 Fold keyboard is a bit shocking. Asus also uses the same ErgoSense keyboard used in other Zenbook family laptops. For many people, this keyboard is one of the best portable keyboards.

the future

The Zenbook 17 Fold is more like a prototype than a final device; With the ThinkPad X1 Fold, Lenovo took a step closer to introducing a functional foldable laptop, but it also did not meet all the expectations of users of this type of device. Asus will fix many of its problems when it launches its new clamshell laptop, but again, the 17-fold Zenbook is not expected to be the final form of clamshell laptops expected by users.

Asus has promised that the final version of this foldable laptop will not have much of a problem, however, it is inconceivable that all the negative points about this device will be fixed. Of course, the fact that Asus is striving to launch a higher quality product is a promising sign for the future and a necessary and forward-looking step in the development of folding laptops.
