Anthropologists have proven that women are more hardworking than men

In the most common form of marriage in the world, women leave their birthplace while men live with their families in their place of birth. This type of marriage is called “patrilocality”. In neolocality marriage, both sexes leave their native place of residence and live in a new place away from their families. This marriage is common in many parts of the world.

In matrilocality, which is less popular, the woman stays in her family and the man moves to live with his wife and her family. Also, duolocality marriage occurs when neither of the two sexes leave their home and the husband and wife live separately. This type of marriage is also very rare.

Fortunately, all four patterns can be observed among different ethnic groups in the Tibetan borderlands. This research focused on villages from six different cultures. The researchers, in collaboration with colleagues from Lanzhou University in China, interviewed more than 500 people about their post-marital breakup status and asked them to wear an activity tracker (like a Fitbit) to assess their workload.

Women are more hardworking

According to the preliminary findings of the research, women are more hardworking than men and dedicate a large part of their work to their families. This result was obtained based on both individual reports of the amount of work and activity trackers.

Women took an average of 12,000 steps per day, while this figure was 9,000 for men; Therefore, men were also hardworking, but less than women. They had more time for leisure, social activities or communication and rest.

Perhaps the reason for this issue is that women are physically weaker than men and therefore have less bargaining power; But according to the results, women and men who move away from their relatives when they get married work more than those who live with their families.

Therefore, if you are a woman and you left your home when you got married (as most women around the world are), not only do you miss your family, but you may also be at a disadvantage in terms of workload. When both sexes are dispersed and neither lives with their families, both work hard (although they get a little help from family) but the women work harder. According to this research, full gender equality in terms of workload occurs only in cases where men leave the family but women stay with the family.

Based on these results, it can be said why women are separated from their families all over the world, but men generally do not do this. Dispersion is detrimental to men and makes them walk 2000 more steps per day, but the number of extra steps for women will be only 1000 steps per day.
