All-round attack on artificial intelligence; Intel released the first details of the 14th generation processors

One of Meteor Lake’s chips is the central processing unit (CPU). Intel says the CPU has a special focus on optimizing power consumption and retains the same hybrid architecture as the 12th and 13th generations. Intel has decided to include Arc graphics in Meteor Lake. The addition of Arc means support for ray tracing and XeSS.

Along with optimizing power consumption, Intel pays a lot of attention to the artificial intelligence engine or VPU (Visual Processing Unit). This processing unit goes directly into the Meteor Lake chips and increases their power in artificial intelligence processing.

Artificial intelligence services such as ChatGPT are hosted in the cloud, and as the number of users increases, more fees will be imposed on software service providers.

written by XDA DevelopersIntel’s VPU unit performs artificial intelligence processes much faster than traditional CPU and GPU units. Thus, a part of the artificial intelligence processing load is removed from the cloud servers so that the systems can take over the task locally.

The VPU is designed for processing such as applying background blur effects, the GPU is used for artificial intelligence added to the rendering engines, and the CPU is used for some light processing. In some processes, all three units start working so that the final result is much more favorable.

Intel has provided an example for better understanding. Imagine running the Stable Diffusion AI service in GIMP on a system equipped with a Meteor Lake processor. In this case, your computer creates a complex image based on the text description and uses VPU, GPU and CPU for this.

It takes only 20 seconds to produce such a photo in the system equipped with Meteor Lake. Next, the user can run the Super Resolution tool and increase the resolution of the image. This tool makes exclusive use of VPU resources and increases resolution in just a few seconds.

Intel says that the VPU makes the background blur effect much better while reducing power consumption. Intel will unveil 14th generation Meteor Lake processors in the near future.
