Elon Musk sued four unidentified people for mining Twitter data

Holding X Corp Elon Musk which owns Twitter, has sued four unidentified individuals for illegally mining Twitter users’ data. The lawsuit was filed more than a week ago in Dallas County, Texas, and Elon Musk is demanding $1 million in compensation.

The four individuals in question, identified only by IP address, illegally obtained Twitter users’ data and violated the platform’s rules of use. X Corp says these people flooded Twitter’s sign-up page with “automated requests.” These requests have put heavy pressure on Twitter’s servers and affected the user experience.

X Corp says it has not yet been able to identify the four individuals involved in extracting user data. According to the case, the actions of these people have imposed additional costs on X Corp. Apparently, the four people in question have been able to make a profit by illegally extracting Twitter data.

In response to the data mining, X Corp was forced to limit the number of tweets each user could see during the day, the filing said. X Corp also made it impossible for unregistered users to access Twitter.

According to VergeTwitter will face challenges to succeed in the new case. The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last year that collecting publicly available data does not violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2020 said that data mining may constitute “improper vindication.” X Corp is looking to charge four people with the same crime.
